A Woman’s Tale

Jochebed and Miriam, Mother and Sister of Moses and Pharaoh’s Daughter
Exodus 2:1-10 (KJV)

Now I would be remiss if I did not broadcast,
The part these women played in that story of the past,
Of Moses the Deliverer and how he got his start,
Of course, it was women who played a crucial part.

I’m upset that these important women are not named,
But only casually mentioned in scripture, with little fame.
Moses’ mother not named nor Pharaoh’s daughter too,
The insignificant treatment of women is nothing new.

The mother of Moses defied the Pharaoh’s decree,
And Pharaoh’s daughter did too, in this story you’ll see,
The courage of women to accomplish God’s plan,
But it takes strength of courage to make a bold stand.

Moses’ mother made a plan for him a future she gave,
And when Pharaoh’s daughter took him – Moses was saved,
The baby cried on cue and compassion took the Princess’ heart,
The sister of Moses also did her courageous part,

She too was not named but watched over her brother that day,
And gave Pharaoh’s daughter a suggestion that made a way,
For her mother to nurse her son and watch the child grow,
And to get paid in the process, God is good – don’t you know.

And when the child grew his mother bought him thus,
To Pharaoh’s Daughter and in God was her trust,
The Princess called his name Moses on that day,
Because she drew him out of the water so the scripture say.

Moses was Pharaoh’s daughter’s son, in the palace to reside,
He had every advantage that Pharaoh’s house could provide,
For his future was set and even he did not know,
That God would use him to – “Let my people go.”

Out of bondage in Egypt the Hebrew people came,
If it hadn’t been for those women who were not even named,
Each courageous woman in place, so neat God’s plan fell,
And I would be remiss not to mention this, “A Woman’s Tale.”
